Common Scholarship Application

Scholarships range from $1,000 to more than $5,000 and, depending on the scholarship, can pay for tuition, room and board, books, fees and other educational expenses.

Even if you’re not a straight-A, star athlete or student body president, we have scholarship opportunities if you have:
    Commitment to your education
    Potential for success in college
    Minimum GPA of 2.0
    Participation in community service, extracurricular activities and/or work experience
    Need of help to pay for school (including middle-income families)

Scholarships are available for graduating high school seniors, undergraduates, graduate, medical and professional school students and adult re-entry students who are attending community colleges, four-year universities, career/technical schools, teaching credential programs and graduate, medical or professional schools in the United States.

Arthur H. Goodman Memorial Scholarship

In response to the many requests the CDC received from organizations and individuals expressing a desire to contribute to a cause in Art’s memory, the CDC established the Arthur H. Goodman Scholarship Fund. The fund provides scholarships to women and minorities who are committed and engaged in their communities.

Scholarships are targeted to those individuals graduating from a community college and transferring to a four-year university.

Athena San Diego Pinnacle Scholarship

Athena San Diego supports the next generation of women leaders in science and technology through its annual Pinnacle Scholarships. These merit-based scholarships are awarded to five qualified graduating high school senior women in San Diego County and are presented at their annual Pinnacle Awards dinner in the spring.

Pinnacle Scholarships are awarded to eligible high school senior women planning to enter a four-year university with the goal of a career in the sciences, math, computer science or engineering.

Outstanding applicants are well-rounded women who demonstrate academic excellence, leadership in school organizations and community involvement. Each scholarship is a minimum of $2,500 per year for two years.

David C. Sommerville Memorial Scholarship

The David C. Sommerville Memorial Scholarship was established by Plumbers & Pipefitters, Local Union 230 for the purpose of providing financial assistance to college bound children and grandchildren of Local Union 230 members.

Escondido High School (EHS) Class of ‘56 Scholarship

The EHS Class of ‘56 Scholarship Fund was established by members of the Escondido High School graduating class of 1956 to assist current graduating Escondido High School seniors who have attended EHS all four years, have a financial need and plan to attend a community college in the United States. The alumni of the EHS Class of 1956 wish to contribute to furthering the education of EHS graduates for years to come.

  • Graduating seniors from Escondido High School (EHS) who have attended EHS at least three years
  • Plan to attend an accredited two-year community college or trade school in the United States
  • Have a minimum unweighted GPA between 2.0-3.0 on a 4.0 scale
  • Have a demonstrated commitment to community service
  • Have a demonstrated financial need
  • Must be a U.S. Citizen or legal resident
  • Recommend enrollment/participation in the FIRST YEAR EXPERIENCE (FYE) and the SUMMER BRIDGE program for entering Community College students

Friends of San Diego ICO Scholarship

The Friends of San Diego ICO Scholarship Fund provides scholarships to individuals who have had a significant level of participation in San Diego ICO outings. San Diego ICO is a nonprofit program dedicated to providing outdoor recreational experiences to low-income urban youth of diverse cultural backgrounds. Its goals are to help those youth challenge themselves physically, learn how to enjoy wilderness safely, and develop a desire to enjoy and protect open spaces within and around their local communities.

Graduating public high school seniors, current community college or 4-year university students or licensed career/technical school students who have had significant level of participation in San Diego ICO outings
Students planning to or are currently attending an accredited four-year university, community college or licensed career/technical school in the United States
Have a minimum unweighted 2.00 GPA on a 4.0 scale
Have a demonstrated financial need
Have a history of active involvement in extracurricular activities, community service or work experience

Hans & Margaret Doe Charitable Trust Scholarship

The Hans & Margaret Doe Charitable Trust Scholarship is open to the biological, adopted or stepchildren of the employees at the Vista Irrigation District. Students may attend a trade/vocational school, community college, four-year university or graduate school, including medical and law in the U.S.

The Hans & Margaret Doe Charitable Trust Scholarship may be renewable (depending upon available funds) for up to eight consecutive years provided the recipient maintains a positive academic and citizenship record and there are no breaks in continuous attendance. This scholarship may cover the entire cost of college including, but not limited to, tuition, books, fees and room & board.

The criteria used in evaluating each scholarship application is based upon, but not limited to, the following: academic achievement, financial need, extra-curricular activities/work experience, demonstrated leadership, good citizenship and potential for future development.

James R. and Geraldine F. Bertelsen Scholarship

To build upon their belief and to honor their love for children, the Bertelsens’ estate established this scholarship in their family name to assist Catholic college-bound students. Due to the Bertelsens’ exceptional generosity, this scholarship will continue to grow indefinitely and the couple’s dream will be realized. This scholarship is based first on academic achievement with need being a secondary consideration.

Residents of Carlsbad, CA for a minimum of one full calendar year (as verified by income tax forms)
Practicing Catholics who are (1) graduating high school seniors with a minimum 3.0 GPA on a 4.0 scale (high school GPAs are unweighted) who have applied to, been accepted by and will attend a four-year Catholic college or university in the United States OR (2) students who are currently enrolled at a four-year Catholic college or university in the United States (students in their senior year of college, who will graduate early and not complete a full academic year, are ineligible)
Applicants should be on course to obtain an undergraduate degree within four years
United States citizens

Previous recipients may re-apply if they maintain a GPA of 2.0 and a course of instruction that will enable them to receive an undergraduate degree within four years. Previous recipients will compete with all other applicants.

Katrina Thompson Scholarship

The desire to encourage a student to attend college was the catalyst for Katrina L. Thompson to establish her scholarship endowment fund. As a graduate of San Diego State University with a degree in accounting, she realized that not everyone has an equal chance for education and, therefore, to a bright career future. Through her fund, Katrina will help students from her own hometown area of Palouse, Washington realize their education goals and life dreams.
