CSUB Filipino Excellence Scholarship

Applications for the Filipino Excellence Scholarship are reviewed as part of the Future Scholars Program. All new applicants, as well as continuing recipients, must explain the educational disadvantages he or she has faced during their college and/or high school education.

1. Be of Filipino heritage (one parent fully Filipino or both parents half-Filipino).
2. Be a U.S. citizen, or provide proof of legal permanent resident status.
3. Have a minimum grade point average of 3.00.
4. Must be enrolled full-time in a degree-seeking program at CSUB.
Eligible applicants must submit the following (it is strongly suggested that all documents be submitted in one envelope):
1. The FilipinoExcellence Scholarship application. To be considered for thisscholarship the student must fully complete and sign the application.
2. Two letters of recommendation. One recommendation should be from an instructor in your major field of study, if possible. The other should be from a person able to provide information concerning the student's character, ability, leadership, promise, and financial need.
3. A personal statement. Include a two-page, typed essay that addresses ALL of the following topics, giving specific examples: Filipinoheritage and family background. Personal and academic achievements. Academic plans and career goals. Past, current, and future efforts toward making a difference in the community. Financial need (include a copy of your 2003-04 Student Aid Report (SAR) and Financial Aid Award Letter, if you applied for financial aid).
