Hauss-Helms Foundation Scholarship

Educational Grants are paid directly to the college, university, trade or technical school. The Foundation pays for tuition, fees and on campus housing. Books are paid if they are billed through the university.

Scholarship Eligibility and Conditions

Each new grantee must provide the Foundation satisfactory evidence of enrollment at a college, university, trade or technical school no later than August 1. The Foundation then issues letters to the college, university, trade or technical school listing the Hauss-Helms grantees and grant amounts for the upcoming academic year. The college, university, trade or technical school then invoices the Foundation for each semester/quarter for each grantee. The Foundation pays only invoices submitted from colleges, universities, trade or technical schools. Invoices submitted by grantees will not be considered.

Grants are for one academic year only. Recipients must reapply each year.

About Hauss-Helms Foundation

The Hauss-Helms Foundation, Inc. was established in 1965 by Mrs. Besse Hauss Helms and her husband, Walter B. Helms, for the purpose of aiding worthy students in the Auglaize and Allen County, Ohio area to continue their education past high school.
Mrs. Helms was the majority shareholder of The Telephone Service Company of Wapakoneta, Ohio and at her death in 1967 she provided that, after certain income provisions for her husband, sisters and brother, her shares in that Company would belong to the Foundation.  Mrs. Helms, though childless herself, had a keen interest in young people and a concern that they receive the education required to accept the challenge of a changing society.  Mr. Helms shared this interest and concern and together they sought to have their personal wealth aid those whose financial need made it impossible or impracticable to continue their education past high school.  When Mr. Helms died in 1969 he left substantially all of his estate to the Foundation.
The Hauss-Helms Foundation, Inc. is a non-profit corporation directed by a Board of Trustees.  The Board of Trustees has established certain criteria for the determination of recipients of Foundation grants and rules and regulations concerning the payments of grants.  All applicants for Foundation grants are required to familiarize themselves with the rules and regulations of the Foundation.
